Abstract:
The Ginger T. Manley collection contains documents and publications relating to the career and work of Ginger T. Manley, MSN, APN. Manley, a writer, sex therapist, and faculty member at Vanderbilt Medical School, spent more than twenty-five years specializing in sexual health. Manley's work included a focus on aging and sexuality; sexual addiction; diabetes and sexual health; and treating health professionals who violate sexual boundaries in their practices. Manley also developed the Manley Model of Sexual Health, a widely used tool to access and treat issues of human sexual dysfunction. This collection includes materials documenting her professional training, teaching and lecture materials, information on workshops she led, and publications.

Biographical / Historical:

[from Time Out workshop bio] Ginger T. Manley, MSN, APN, Ret., is a Certified Clinical Specialist in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing and an AASECT Certified Diplomate of Sex therapy, retired. She retired from her faculty position as Associate in Psychiatry, Vanderbilt Medical School, in the division of addictive medicine in 2015. Until her retirement from practice in 2005, she treated individuals and couples in her private practice of sex therapy, dealing with issues of sexual dysfunction, sexual issues resulting from traumatic experiences, and sexual addiction. She recently published Assisted Loving: The Journey through Sexuality and Aging, aimed to folks over age sixty and the questions they have related to sexuality and life and health issues. She continues to teach "Maintaining Appropriate Boundaries in Practice," a CME course for physicians offered at the Center for Professional Health at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

[from Vanderbilt School of Nursing website] Recognized for her leadership in the extension of advanced practice nursing. Pioneering the role since 1975, she was the first advanced practice nurse to chair the Tennessee Board of Nursing and the first nurse faculty member to have a private faculty practice at Vanderbilt. As a specialist in sexual health for more than twenty-five years, she developed the Manley Model of Sexual Health, which is widely used to assess and treat issues of human sexual dysfunction. She has specialized in treating health professionals who violate sexual boundaries in their practices, an area in which she has published numerous papers.
