Mark Schoen is a sexuality educator, filmmaker, and author. Schoen began his sexual education career as a health education teacher to teenagers. He then received his PhD at New York University's Sexual Health Education program, where he became more interested in the use of film for sex education. He then began working at Focus International, where he produced and distributed sexual health education and therapy films. During this period Schoen also published his book Bellybuttons are Navels, a children's picture book which presents information about anatomy, which was published by Prometheus Books in 1990. In 1998 Schoen began working at the Sinclair Intimacy Institute as the director of sexuality education, and continued to produce sexual education films. In 2007 Schoen founded SexSmartFilms, where he serves as president and continues to produce and distribute digital sexual health media.
