The AKD Alpha of Indiana chapter at was formed at Indiana University in 1936. This collection contains one minute book recording organization membership and activities from 1942-1961.

Biographical / Historical:

Alpha Kappa Delta is the International Sociology Honor Society founded in 1920. The organization seeks "to investigate humanity for the purpose of service" as well as promote scholarship and excellence to study and research of sociology. AKD is active in honoring excellent scholarly work, providing service opportunities related to the field, and printing a quarterly journal.

The Indiana Alpha Chapter of AKD was established in 1936 on Indiana University's campus.

Scope and Content:

This collection only holds one ledger recording the Indiana AKD chapter membership and meetings from 1942 to 1961. During that time, the group held regular meetings to honor students, discuss issues related to the department and the organization, and provide educational opportunities, such as lecture series. The last few meetings described in the ledger included discussions about whether or not to continue with the group's national affiliation.
