Class scraps at Indiana University were a series of violent events in which the students of opposing classes competed in physical challenges such as capture the flag or general brawls or fist fights. This collection includes broadsides, often mocking and vulgar, printed in advance of the competitions.

Biographical / Historical:

Class scraps at Indiana University were a series of violent events in which the students of opposing classes competed in physical challenges such as capture the flag or general brawls or fist fights. Working up to the scraps, classes would publish prints mocking and taunting their competitors. The prints were often vulgar and scathing. The scraps were typically freshmen against sophomores and juniors against seniors.

This collection comprises 15 broadsides printed for the class scraps at Indiana University from circa 1897-1906.
