Background

Biographical / Historical:

Dorothy Dorland was born in 1907 in LaPorte, Indiana. She began her undergraduate career at Indiana University in the fall of 1925 and pursued a degree in history. Dorland rushed and was one of eight girls who joined Delta Delta Delta Sorority the fall of her freshman year. She was heavily involved in the sorority as well as participating in the History and Political Science Club. While a student, Dorothy began dating John Luzadder, a member of Delta Theta Delta Fraternity and a student at Wabash College. The pair were engaged in the spring of 1928 (Dorothy's junior year) and were married on June 20th, 1930. They had 3 daughters. Dorothy passed away in 1995.

Scope and Content:

This collection contains one scrapbook and one folder of loose scrapbook ephemera and photographs that document Dorothy Dorland's undergraduate career at Indiana University from 1925 through January 1929, just before her May graduation. The scrapbook consists of papers and other items that Dorothy taped into the book and accompanied with her description or general rating of the event ("rotten," "darling"). These items include letters, dance cards, seating cards, play bills, newspaper clippings, photos, pins, tickets, report cards, and telegrams. Most of the scrapbook contents relate to the sorority events that appear to have made up much of Dorothy's social life. Additionally, she documented trips she took across Indiana and to Minnesota for the 15th National Convention for Delta Delta Delta in 1928.
