- Scope and Content:
The collection illustrates the creative process of writing The Untouchables, from the preliminary research stage to the revised final draft of 1986. Included are photocopied news clippings concerning Eliot Ness and Al Capone, handwritten notes, scene sketches that reveal Mamet's ideas for dialogue and character traits, and outlines and drafts, all of which reveal the evolution of the work. A brief note from Art Linson, producer of the film, is included.
- Biographical / Historical:
David Mamet, 1947- , is an American playwright, poet, novelist, screenwriter, and director. He was born on November 20, 1947 in Chicago. He began his writing career during his studies at Goddard College in Vermont, and has been a prolific author, publishing more than fifty works since 1977. He has written screenplays for over two dozen films, including Wag the Dog, The Edge, Hoffa, and the movie adaptation of his Pulitzer Prize winning play Glengarry Glen Ross. He also is the director of House of Games, The Spanish Prisoner, The Winslow Boy, and State and Main.
