Background

Biographical / Historical:

Marcia Adams, 1935-2011, was a culinary author from Fort Wayne, Indiana. She published several cookbooks, including "Cooking from Quilt Country: Hearty Recipes from Amish and Mennonite Kitchens" (1988), "Heartland: The Best of the Old and the New from Midwest Kitchens" (1991), "Marcia Adams' Heirloom Recipes: Yesterday's Favorites, Tomorrow's Treasures" (1994), and "Recipes Remembered." She also hosted PBS television series "Amish Cooking From Quilty Country" and "Marcia Adams' Kitchen." Marcia Adams died in 2011 at the age of 75.

Scope and Content:

The majority of the collection consists of copies of Marcia Adam's outgoing letters, both personal and professional. There are also appearance or meeting schedules, interfiled chronologically with the correspondence; press kits and other publicity relating to her several cookbooks; a photo album and clippings relating to her television show in Fort Wayne in the late 1960s; and a baby book and other memorabilia, as well as letters from camp and school, of her son Gerard Paul Sicard. The only cookbook manuscript present is the copy-edited New Recipes from Quilt Country (New York: Clarkson N. Potter, 1997). There is also one folder of unpublished short stories written in the 1970s and probably for family entertainment as they are children's stories. Family photo albums from the 1950s and 60s and scrapbooks dating from the mid-50s through the mid-1990s, complete the collection.
