Incorporated in 1974 with the goal of increasing participation in the arts in south central Indiana, the Bloomington Area Arts Council (BAAC) is one of twelve Regional Arts Partner organizations that supports public participation in the arts by developing, strengthening, and promoting the cultural resources of the city of Bloomington, Monroe County generally, and the surrounding counties of Brown, Greene, Lawrence, Morgan, and Owen. The BAAC specifically helps local artists and arts organizations with grantmaking and technical assistance; exhibits the work of regional artists at the John Waldron Arts Center; offers art classes to the general public; and hosts performances in dance, music, and theater. The BAAC publishes a newsletter titled the Helicon.
