Background

Biographical / Historical:

The Brindeau mss., 1970-1976 includes drafts and correspondence surrounding the compilation of La Poésie Contemporaine de langue Francais depuis 1945. Serge Constant Brindeau (1925-1997) was a French poet and editor of La Poesie Contemporaine. He studied at Le Mans and later at the Lycée Louis-le-Grand. Brindeau went on to teach philosophy in Raincy and collaborated on several magazine projects. In 1969, he joined the editorial board of Poetry I. And in 1973, he began publishing La Poesie Contemporaine.

In addition to an incomplete draft of La Poésie Contemporaine, the collection includes correspondence between Brindeau and notable figures of French culture and literature including Henri Chopin and Jean Joubert.
