Background

Biographical / Historical:

The Camp mss. II, 1900-1925 consists of field notes by historical researcher and interviewer Walter Mason Camp (1867-1925). Born in Camptown, Pennyslvania, Camp went on to study at Pennyslvania State College. He then became a civil engineering and railroad expert, hence his editorial position at The Railway and Engineering Review and his authorship of Notes on Track (1903). During the 1876 Battle of the Little Bighorn, Camp also interviewed several hundred whites and Native Americans, the results of which are scattered in library collections throughout the country, including the Lilly Library.

This collection includes some typescripts of Camp's field notes, rendered by Professor Kenneth Hammer. See also Camp mss., 1873-1918.
