Background

Biographical / Historical:

Rodger Cunningham, 1948- , is a scholar, writer and Professor of English at Alice Lloyd College located in eastern Kentucky. After graduating from Marshall University with a B.A. in English, Cunningham went on to receive both his M.A. (1972) and Ph.D (1980) in Comparative Literature from Indiana University. His book Apples on the Flood: The Southern Mountain Experience (1987) received the W.D. Weatherford Award in Appalachian Studies in 1988. He has also published twenty-five essays and serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Appalachian Studies.

Scope and Content:

The Cunningham mss. includes drafts, correspondence, and other materials relating to Rodger Cunningham's published novel, Apples on the Flood, and the author's works in progress including Ogma, The Mirror of John Dee, and The Forest of Knowing. Also in this collection are the journals and notebooks of Cunningham's uncle, Lester V. Cunningham, 1916-1937.
