The Federman mss., 1962-1992, consists of letters written to author Raymond Federman, 1928-2009, by fellow writers and colleagues. The 30-year period covered in the letters coincides with the prime of Federman's writing career, when he wrote or edited 23 books, three of which were critical studies of the work of Samuel Beckett. Beckett himself is among Federman's correspondents, and his work is a frequent topic of the other writers, such as Ruby Cohn, who also wrote several books on Beckett. Other correspondents are Walter Abish, Avigdor Arikha, John Barth, Donald Barthelme, Roland Barthes, Helene Cixous, and Babette Deutsch.
