Background
- Biographical / Historical:
The Gagg mss., 1893-1902 consists of writings and other paraphernalia by Indiana cashier and treasurer George A. Gagg (1865-1920). Born in Indianapolis, Gagg first moved to Terre Haute as a child with his parents. There, he went to a local public school, and went on to graduate from college in Piqua, Ohio. He first became a cashier at the Prairie City Bank in Terre Haute, and later at the Terre Haute Savings Bank. In 1902, he moved to New York to work for the Eastern Trust company, but two years afterward he moved back to Terre Haute and eventually became a secretary and management figure at the Wabash Realty and Loan Company. He also became treasurer of the Terre Haute Commandery 16, Knight Templars.

The Gagg mss., 1893-1902, consists of a letterpress copybook, March 10, 1898-February 10, 1902, of Gagg & Company, Terre Haute, Indiana, and letters, 1893-1896, to George A. Gagg, assistant cashier of the Terre Haute Savings Bank, and treasurer of the Terre Haute Commandery 16, Knight Templars. Most of the latter relate to Masonic and Knight Templar matters.
