The Household mss., 1939-1967, consist of correspondence, radio scripts, and writings of Geoffrey Edward West Household, 1900-1988, novelist. Among the writings are Against the Wind, Arabesque, The Brides of Solomon, The Courtesy of Death, Dance of the Dwarfs, Fellow Passengers, The High Place, Olura, Prisoner of the Indies, Rogue Male, A Rough Shoot, A Thing to Love, and The Third Hour.

Background

Biographical / Historical:

Geoffrey Edward West Household, 1900-1988, was a British novelist who published several short story collections and many novels, most in the thriller, science fiction, or supernatural genres. Born in Bristol, he received a B.A. in English Literature at Magdalene College in Oxford and traveled extensively around Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas doing odd jobs as marketer, salesman, secretary, etc. to supplement his writing. Household was a part of the British Intelligence during World War II in Romania, Greece, and the Middle East.

Scope and Content:

Correspondence consists of letters sent to Household from various correspondents during the period of 1944-1952. Radio scripts includes various scripts Household wrote for CBS during his time in the United States. Writings includes the drafts and typescripts of his various novels as well as his short story collection The Brides of Solomon and his autobiography Against the Wind. All materials sorted in alphabetical order.
