- Biographical / Historical:
George Cruikshank, 1792-1878, was an English caricaturist and book illustrator who reached international popularity through his illustrations for Charles Dickens' work. He was also active in the National Temperance Society and other temperance organizations.
- Scope and Content:
The Leech mss. ca. 1830-1870, consist of sketches, drawings, and notes by English caricaturist and illustrator George Cruikshank, 1792-1878. Many of the drawings and sketches are hand-colored either partially or in full, and a few are framed, such as three finished drawings for "Tom & Jerry." Also present are two self-portraits, one as a caricature, and a frames gravure portrait of Cruikshank, printed in Paris.
