Background
- Biographical / Historical:
Aída (Eimer) Marcuse, 1934- , is a writer and a literary translator. She was born in Montevideo, Uruguay in 1934. She married Robert J. Marcuse in 1957 and emigrated to the United States in 1985. She became a writer and translator of both children's and adult literature and also served as a consultant, board member and member of multicultural and bilingual associations and organizations. Her works have been published in Spanish, English, French, Dutch, and Portuguese. She earned a Commendation of the city of Miami and has an honorary membership in the Linguistic Society of Panama.
- Scope and Content:
The Dr. Seuss titles/translations in this collection are: Huevos verdes con jamón (Green Eggs and Ham); El Lórax (The Lorax); and ¡Oh, cuán lejos llegarás! (Oh, the Places You'll Go!).
Correspondence includes communication between Marcuse and publishers. Publicity consists of articles and news related to Aída Marcuse's translations and writings. Subject Files consists of materials related to translations and publishers. Writings consists of written and typed drafts of some of Marcuse's original work for both adults and children, including Lo que cuentan los incas, Yo y los demás.
