- Biographical / Historical:
James Lewicki, 1917-1980, was an artist and illustrator known for his work in Life magazine's series on American Folklore. The series was published in five parts beginning in August 1959 and subsequently republished in a single volume as The Life Treasury of American Folklore, by the Editors of Life, New York: Time, Inc., 1961.
- Scope and Content:
The bulk of the collection consists of posed photographs of the Lewicki family for use in the American Folklore series. Also included are research materials, notes, and drafts relating to the series, as well as reviews and publicity. Lewicki's professional correspondence and biographical information completes the collection.
