Background

Biographical / Historical:

The Brock, G. mss., 2005-2007 contains the papers of American poet and translator Geoffrey Brock (1964-). Brock received his Mfa from the University of Florida, and PhD in Comparative Literature from the University of Pennyslvania. His poetry has been published in a series of literary magazines. Brock currently teaches creative writing at the University of Arkansas. His first book of poetry, Weighing Light, appeared in 2005. He is the translator of books by Cesare Pavese, Roberto Calasso, and Umberto Eco, as well as a new translation of Pinocchio (2009). His translations have received Poetry's John Frederick Nims Memorial Prize, the ATA's Lewis Galantière Award, the PEN Center USA Translation Award, the MLA's Lois Roth Award, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Translation Prize, and the Academy of American Poets' Raiziss/de Palchi Fellowship. A recent Wallace Stegner Fellow at Stanford, he has received fellowships from the NEA and the Guggenheim Foundation.

The collection includes translation manuscripts of Brock's including An Anthology of 20th Century Italian Poetry, Skylark Farm, and The Selected Poetry and Prose of Andrea Zanzotta.
