Demas Lindley McFarland (1791-1869) was an Indiana Jacksonian politician.

Scope and Content:

The McFarland, Demas Lindley mss., ca. 1812-1849, consist of correspondence concerning the experiences and conduct of Demas Lindley McFarland during the War of 1812, as well as with the Jacksonian controversy over the Second Bank of the United States. McFarland was accused of cowardice and desertion during the War of 1812 in early 1832 by Andrew Wilson, a possible political opponent. The archive documents the disputation of the charges and the defense of McFarland's reputation for many years later.
