Background

Biographical / Historical:

Clifford E. Landers is Professor Emeritus of Political Science. A prolific translator of major Brazilian novels from the Portuguese into English, Landers has also served as Head of the Literary Division of the American Translators Association, as editor of Beacons, An Anthology of Literary Translations, and is the author of Literary Translation: A Practical Guide. His major awards include a National Endowment for the Arts Translation Grant, and the Mario Ferreira Award, from the Portuguese Language Division of the ATA. He has also been a Visiting Fellow at Princeton University and a Fulbright Exchange Professor in the Dominican Republic.
