Background
- Biographical / Historical:
Dr. Peter Lindenbaum (1938-2010) taught at Indiana University from 1967 to 2003 after receiving degrees from Harvard, Cambridge, and UC-Berkeley. His academic focus was on literary forms and traditions and of the book as both an index and an agent of social connection and change. While at Indiana University, Lindenbaum helped revive and reorganize the interdepartmental Renaissance studies program and was also a founder of the History of the Book seminar, based on similar programs at University of Pennsylvania and the Newberry Library. In addition, he served on the Bloomington Faculty Council, several academic committees and the campus honors program.
- Scope and Content:
The Talks and Lectures series consists of materials related to conference talks and guest lectures. Courses relates to classes taught by Lindenbaum, as well as the History of the Book seminar dating 1999-2007. Conferences contains materials from several different English literature conferences. Articles consists of drafts of articles written by Dr. Lindenbaum on topics such as John Playford and John Milton. Research contains materials used to write articles and teach courses, including research from a summer spent in Venice. Correspondence includes discussion on an article and History of the Book topics. Miscellaneous includes materials regarding Dr. Lindenbaum's sabbatical from 2000-2001 and other items.
