- Biographical / Historical:
Antonia Lloyd-Jones, 1962- , is an English translator of Polish literature. After studying Russian and Greek at Oxford University, she learned Polish on her own. She has translated many works of Polish literature into English, including House of Day, House of Night by Olga Tokarczuk, Paweł Huelle's Mercedes-Benz, Castorp, and The Last Supper, and Saturn by Jacek Dehnel. She has twice received the Found in Translation Award, and she won the Transatlantyk Prize in 2018. She is also the former co-chair Translators Association of the United Kingdom. She lives in London.
Paweł Huelle, 1957- , is a Polish author. He was born on September 10, 1957 in Gdańsk, Poland. He studied Polish philology at Gdańsk University and later worked as a journalist for the press service of the Solidarność (Solidarity) trade union. After martial law was declared in Poland in 1981, Huelle became involved in the samizdat publishing movement. His first novel, Who Was David Weiser?, was published in 1987, and he has written many other successful works, including a satirical novel titled The Last Supper (2007) which was nominated for the Nike Award in 2008. In addition to his career as a prose writer, Huelle has also worked as a university lecturer, director of the Gdańsk Polish Television Center and as a columnist for Gazeta Wyborcza.
