Background
- Biographical / Historical:
Ecuador came under Spanish colonial rule in 1533. It achieved indepenedence in 1825 and was a part of the Gran Colombia with Venezuela and Colombia before becoming its own republic in 1830.
- Scope and Content:
The Yanez mss. collection consists of historical documents pertaining to Colonial Ecuador. Included are documents pertaining to relations with and actions taken against the Amazonian tribes, government records, geographical descriptions, and correspondence from prominent persons in the military and government.
