Background

Biographical / Historical:

A writer and an educator, Bonnie Larkin Nims wrote in various genres and subjects. After the death of his husband, poet and academic John Frederick, she acted as his literary executer and actively helped his works to be known and circulated. Nims published several literary works for children, ranging from poems and novels to plays. Her writings also include several articles, published both under her name and anonymously, that show her wide range of interests. Not only did she write about topics such as literature, art or women's rights, but she also write pieces on her life in Spain or daily life of women in her time. As an active educator, she was deeply interested in educating young children about reading and writing as well. This is reflected on the letters she exchanged with numerous educators and children, as well as the writing guidebooks and teaching guidelines she created both for students and teachers. She was also a close friend to Christopher Welles Feder, actress and eldest daughter of actor Orson Welles, as the large volume of correspondence between the Feders and the Nims suggests.

Scope and Content:

Correspondence includes both personal and business letters Nims exchanged with numerous people, including Christopher Welles Feder. Writings include Nims's works in literature, criticism, and art projects. Publicity contains materials about Nims and her works published by others, such as reviews and newspaper articles.
