Background
- Biographical / Historical:
Peter Constantine 1963- is a literary translator of works primarily in German, Russian, French, Greek, Italian, and other Eastern European languages. Born in London and grew up in Athens, Constantine moved to the United States in 1983, starting a long career in translation works that earned him many literary prizes over the years. He has also written several of his own books on subcultures and slangs in Asia.
- Scope and Content:
Series I consists of multiple tranlations and notes of Complete Works of Isaac Babel, Series II to V contains the various translation drafts of the works of Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Series VI contains drafts of Machiavelli's The Prince, and Series VII consists of multiple drafts of Constantine's own book, Japanese Street Slang. Aside from these series, several folders of shorter translations are also present.
