Background

Biographical / Historical:

Lt. Glenn A. Burgett of Greenwood, Indiana, joined the U.S. Army in 1942 to study military law. During 1944 he began practicing law while still studying and travelled to Richmond, V.A., Washington, D.C., and Fort Fisher, N.C. and continued to work for the military through 1945 in California and Washington, D.C. While working as a lawyer for the military, he also made a few trips to Hong Kong as part of government business.

Scope and Content:

This collection of correspondence spans the period of 1942-1946 and includes letters to Burgett's family. These letters detail the thoughts of an intelligent military officer and lawyer who played a unique role in the era of WWII. He discussed topics such as his schooling, various military court cases, social and family life, his perspective on the war, and his impressions of Hong Kong in 1946, as well as other similar topics.
