- Biographical / Historical:
Joel Agee, 1940- , is a translator and writer whose works range from essays in The New Yorker and Harper's Magazine to his memoirs, Twelve Years – An American Boyhood in East Germany and In the House of My Fear. His German-to-English translations include works by Rainer Maria Rilke, Friedrich Dürrenmatt, and Heinrich von Kleist, the latter of which earned him the Helen and Kurt Wolff Prize.

The collection primarily consists of materials for Agee's translation of Rainer Maria Rilke's Letters on Cezanne and Aeschylus's Prometheus Bound, and for Agee's memoir, In the House of My Fear.
