Background

Biographical / Historical:

Esther Allen is the co-founder and Executive Director of the Center for Literary Translation at Columbia University. She has guided the work of the PEN Translation Fund since it was founded in 2003, and was co-founder of PEN World Voices: The New York Festival of International Literature. She has published a number of translations from Spanish and French, including the Penguin Classics Anthology Jose Marti: Selected Writings, and in 2006 was made a Chevalier de l'ordre des arts et des lettres by the French government.

Scope and Content:

The collection consists of proof pages and email correspondence relating to Esther Allen's translation of Rex, a novel by Jose Manuel Prieto, including Prieto's exchanges with his German and French translators.
