W. H. Allen was a publishing business founded in 1835 in London that now operates as an imprint of Ebury Press, a division of Penguin Random House.
- Scope and Content:
The bulk of the collection consists of approximately 100 autograph letters from author Alan Sillitoe to the office of publisher W. H. Allen, along with carbons from the publisher's office of their responses. Most of the letters concern Sillitoe's works in progress and his works' reception and promotion, though his frequent travels are also commonly discussed (and travel ephemera included). Also included are inter-office memos, book promotion materials, cover designs, and page proofs for W. H. Allen's publications of Sillitoe's works.
