Background

Biographical / Historical:

Rüdiger Kremer (b. 1942) is a German author and freelance writer. From 1968-1972, Kremer was a radio editor at Radio Bremen, where he served as director from 1990 onwards. His works include numerous radio plays and one novel, The Color of Snow, translated into English by Breon Mitchell.

Breon Mitchell, 1942- , is an Indiana University professor of Germanic Studies, a translator of German to English, and a Samuel Beckett bibliographer. He began his professional career with a Ph.D. from Oxford University in Comparative Literature, and joined the Indiana University faculty in 1968, in both the Germanic Studies and Comparative Literature departments.

Scope and Content:

Correspondence includes letters between Kremer and Mitchell regarding translation questions and personal matters, as well as between Mitchell and publishers regarding Kremer's works. The Writings series consists of manuscripts, typescripts, notes, and drafts of Kremer's writings and Mitchell's translations. Miscellaneous includes personal photographs of Kremer and his wife, as well as pen-and-ink drawings for use in an edition of Donald-Donald.
