Background

Biographical / Historical:

Born to Effie Chandler, a participant in the Orphan Train program to Indiana, Anna Rouch Mackenzie worked as a nurse in Chicago before marrying a South African rancher and moving to Zimbabwe (then called Southern Rhodesia).

LaRita Jean Rouch Killian, CPA, is a professor of accounting at Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus and a faculty research fellow for the Center for Business and Economic Research at Ball State University.

Scope and Content:

The collection consists of letters of Anna Mackenzie, along with transcriptions and related research materials gathered by Killian for her book Zimbabwe Bound: A Woman's Journey through Africa. Killian relies heavily on Mackenzie's correspondence in the book to chronicle her life.
