Background
- Biographical / Historical:
Friederike Mayröcker (b. 1924) is an educator and experimental German writer known for her poetry. Mayröcker has declared Samuel Beckett as her favorite poet.
Johannes Käfer (1899-?) was an Austrian Beckett scholar and author of "Hommage a Beckett," published in 1973 in Literatur und Kritik. Born in Krummau an der Moldau, Käfer studied music with Anton von Webern in Vienna and published poetry and essays on Broch, Joyce, Kubin and Schiele.
Samuel Beckett, 1906-1989, was an Irish playwright, poet, and translator.

The collection consists of correspondence between Friederike Mayröcker and Johann Käfer concerning Samuel Beckett, as well as several draft translations by Mayröcker of cards to Käfer from Beckett.
