Background

Biographical / Historical:

Born in Milwaukee, WI, Nancy Rafal worked as an educator and library media center director before moving to Baileys Harbor and rediscovering a passion for poetry. Rafal claims fellow poet Lorine Niedecker as an inspiration for her work and poetry advocacy; she is a board member of Friends of Lorine Niedecker. Rafal was appointed Door County Poet Laureate in 2019 and served as treasurer of the Wisconsin Fellowship of Poets for many years.

Sidney "Cid" Corman, 1924-2004, was a poet, translator, and editor.

Scope and Content:

The collection consists of correspondence between advocate of poetry and poet Nancy Rafal and poet Cid Corman. Also included are some of Rafal's letters relating to the 100th anniversary of fellow Wisconsin poet Lorine Niedecker.
