Background

Biographical / Historical:

Sir Alan Charles Laurence Whistler, 1912-2000, was a British poet and artist, focusing primarily on glass engraving. Whistler became the first recipient of the King's Gold Medal for Poetry in 1935; his many other honors included an OBE (1955) and a CBE (1973), and in 2000, not long before his death, he was made a Knight Bachelor.

Jean Frampton, was a typist and literary editor/advisor. Frampton's services were notably employed by Ian Fleming for his James Bond series, though the two never met in person.

Scope and Content:

The collection consists of about fifty autograph letters and postcards from Whistler, carbon copies of all of Jean Frampton's replies and various related materials such as invoices and receipts.
