Background

Biographical / Historical:

Elizabeth Ann Wrancher, 1930-2012, was a music educator and opera singer from Indianapolis, Indiana. After receiving her Bachelor of Music at Indiana University in 1955, Wrancher traveled to Germany as a Fulbright Scholar and continued to perform as a lyric dramatic soprano throughout Europe for the next 13 years. Wrancher was the first American to win first prize in the International Music Contest. In 1968, she joined the voice faculty at the University of South Florida, leaving in 1974 to join the faculty and develop the vocal program at University of Central Florida. Wrancher also worked as a consultant for Disney World from 1987 to her death.

Scope and Content:

The collection consists of reviews, recital recordings, dialogue scripts, and other materials related to Elizabeth Wrancher's opera career. Also included are photo albums, negatives, and costume photos, as well as correspondence (both personal and professional). A sizeable collection of personal ephemera, including Fulbright Scholar materials, medals, yearbooks, journals, and a black dress, complete the collection.
