Background

Biographical / Historical:

David Mamet is an American playwright, filmmaker, and author whose best known works include Glengarry Glen Ross, Speed-the-Plow and The Verdict. Mamet was born in Chicago, Illinois on November 30, 1947. Mamet graduated from Goddard college with a Bachelor of the Arts. He first gained recognition with Sexual Perversity in Chicago (1974). Among his notable works include American Buffalo, Glengarry Glen Ross, Boston Marriage, The Untouchables, The Shawl, and House of Games. He has one a Pulitzer and has been nominated for two Tony Awards.

Scope and Content:

Correspondence consists of the correspondence and letters to and from David Mamet about his work and are arranged by date written or recieved. Tyscript drafts consists of drafts of the plays, books, and films that Mamet wrote and are arranged by production release year. The personal item series consists of personal material from Mamet's life including a baby book, and pins. Artwork consists of art from Mamet's life, including personal drawings and film posters. The audiovisual material is in VHS and floppy disk format and is arranged randomly due to floppy disks being unlabeled.
