Biographical / Historical:

Frank D. McCann, 1938-2021, was a historian and professor of Brazil military history. After earning his PhD from Indiana University in 1967, McCann continued to study Brazil while teaching history at the United States Military Academy at West Point. In 1971, McCann began teaching at the University of New Hampshire, where he founded and directed the Center for International Perspectives. McCann's research interests also included the lives and history of North American Indigenous peoples, particularly the Cayuga and Seneca Nations; he organized and taught the first course in Native American history ever taught at University of New Hampshire during his tenure. His best known published works include Soldiers of the Pátria and Brazil-United States Alliance 1937-1945, which won the Stuart L. Bernath Book Prize in 1975.

The Correspondence series consists of letters, memos, and correspondence to and from McCann. The Personal series includes materials primarily relating to McCann and his family, such as genealogical materials, certificates and awards, and financial documents. The Research and Professional Work series primarily consists of research materials (often copies but sometimes original clippings and periodicals) and materials relating to McCann's contributions to the field, such as book reviews and conferences. Teaching includes lesson plans, syllabi, class readings, and other material related to McCann's teaching, primarily at University of New Hampshire. Finally, the Writings and Talks series includes notes, typescripts, and galley proofs of McCann's published works as well as essays, talks, book reviews, and other written material.
