Background

Biographical / Historical:

Angela Zeman (b. 1948, d. 2020) was an American mystery writer. She primarily wrote short stories, one of which was included in the anthology, Best American Mystery Stories, in 2004. Zeman published one novel, The Witch and the Borscht Pearl, in 2001. She was an active member in the Mystery Writers of America, serving on the national board, chairing multiple committees, and running symposia. She was also a member of the International Association of Crime Writers, the Friars Club, and other professional associations. Zeman passed away from COVID-19 in 2020.

Scope and Content:

This collection is arranged into four series: Correspondence, Professional, Writings, and Notebooks. The Correspondence consists of general and professional correspondence from agents and other writers. The Professional series consists of files related to Zeman's writing career, including her role in the Mystery Writers of America and other professional organizations, as well as administrative files related to the publication of her work. The Writings series consists of manuscripts, drafts, notes, and correspondence related to Zeman's literary works. The Notebooks series consists of Zeman's writing notes, including notes and ideas for stories that were never published. Most files have their own scope and content note, provided by Barry Zeman. These notes give further description of the content and context of the items in the folder.
