- Biographical / Historical:
The American Literary Translators Association was founded in 1978. Over the years, it has successfully established a meaningful and productive interaction between independent and academic translators. Through an annual conference, newsletters, and the publication of Translation Review, ALTA works to enhance the professional status of literary translators and to provide forums for the study of translation. It is the only arts organization in the United States dedicated solely to the issues of literary translation.
