Background

Biographical / Historical:

The German Department became a seperate department as part of the School of Liberal Arts in the 1970s. Other language programs grew into seperate departments, but the German Department housed the Japanese program and the Classical Studies program. In 1996, the Department of French (comprised of French and Arabic) and the Department of German (comprised of German, Bahasa Malay, Classical Studies, Japanese and Russian) merged to form the Department of Foreign Languages and Cultures, which later became World Languages and Cultures (WLAC). In 1997, the Department of Spanish (which also housed Italian) joined the merged department.

Scope and Content:

The Department of German Records houses the German Department newsletters and curriculum of the IUPUI German Department.
