Background
- Biographical / Historical:
The Political Science Department is first began in the 1960s an a unit of the IU Indianapolis extension campus. The department was formalized in 1969 when IUPUI was formed. In the 1970s, the department expanded by doubling their staff with the 1980s seeing a similar increase. Beginning in the 1980s as a radio show then a local cable tv show, the department produced the program Consider This. In the 1990s, the faculty had huge turn over due to aging members and saw a brand new wave of educators join the department. The department founded the Global and International Studies program and the creation of the Paralegal Program. The department also worked with the School of Law to create the Legal Studies minor and Law in Liberal Arts major.

The Department of Political Science Records houses the administrative records, faculty records, and correspondence of the IUPUI Political Science Department. This collection, which dates from 1972 to 1994, consists of correspondence, reports, publications, conference papers, and other materials. This collection covers the inner workings and early development of the department in the School of Liberal Arts.
