- Biographical / Historical:
The Institute for Humanities Research was created in the Fall of 1983 as part of IUPUI's strategy to add more programs for those with majors in the humanities. The institute focused on traditional humanities and adjacent fields that deal with the study of human beings such as law, medicine, and social sciences. Programs developed by the institute focused on discussions of intellecutal and artistic concerns in relation to human welfare and IUPUI campus affairs.

The Institute for Humanities Research Records houses the administrative records, program materials, and correspondence of the IUPUI Institute for Humanities Research. This collection, which dates from 1982 to 1991, consists of memos, reports, publications, brochures, and other materials. This collection covers the inner workings and early development of the institute.
