Background
- Biographical / Historical:
William B. Kory earned degrees in mathematics and geography from SUNY Buffalo, Case Western Reserve University, and the University of Pittsburgh (PhD), specializing in Africa and demography. Kory collected items dealing with Africa as a student and while living in Liberia for two years (1963-1965) as a Peace Corps volunteer. While in Liberia, Kory taught mathematics in a junior high school (Lingo Lippe Jr. H.S.) in Kakata where he also coached soccer, helped with school curriculum development, started a choir, and performed other duties for the school. The William Kory collection includes censuses, Liberian Studies Association papers, and geographic materials.
- Scope and Content:
The William Kory Collections contains two series, Papers and Publications. The Papers series contains unpublished materials from the Liberian Studies conferences, as well as various other items. The Publications series contains published materials from government agencies as well as other associations and institutes. Included in this series are censuses, and materials from the Liberian Research Association, and the Liberian Education Review.
