The collection consists largely of clippings and printouts from clipping services relating to Evan Bayh's senatorial career, plus staff-compiled "Legacy Files," photos, and 364 videotapes, CDs, and DVDs. The "Legacy Files" and photos also include his gubernatorial years.

Background

Biographical / Historical:

Evan Bayh was born on December 26, 1955, in Shirkeyville, Indiana. He graduated with honors in business economics from Indiana University in 1978 and received his law degree from the University of Virginia in 1981. Bayh clerked for a federal court judge and practiced law in Indianapolis prior to being elected Indiana's Secretary of State in 1986. Bayh served as the Governor of Indiana from 1989-1997. In 1998, Bayh was elected as a Democrat to the U.S. Senate and reelected in 2004. He retired from the Senate in 2010.

Scope and Content:

Clippings and online clipping service printouts comprise 34 cartons of the collection, which include press releases within the chronology arranged by Congress. Staff files consist of clippings or clipping printouts as well. The Legacy Files cover both Bayh's gubernatorial and senatorial careers as do the photos. Audiovisual materials include coverage of events, interviews, and newcasts.
