Biographical / Historical:

Patrice Rushen is an award-winning pianist, vocalist, arranger, composer, producer, educator and recording artist known for her solo jazz and RnB albums. She has performed around the world as a leader and with other artists, composed scores for films and television, served as musical director for top award shows and for Janet Jackson's World Tour, and has collaborated with a wide range of other artists ranging from Aaron Neville and Prince to Herbie Hancock and Ramsey Lewis.

Scope and Contents:

The bulk of the collection contains press clippings and publicity materials documenting Patrice Rushen's career in the 1990s, specifically focusing on the release of her 1997 album, Signature. These materials were supplied in advance of Rushen's visits to Indiana University in 1997, co-sponsored by the Archives of African American Music and Culture and African American Arts Institute, where she gave class lectures and performed with the IU Soul Revue. Audio and video recordings document these events. Also included are copies of two CDs, Signature and Haven't You Heard?: the Best of Patrice Rushen.
