Contains correspondence related to Spencer, Indiana native Horace Meek Hickam (1885-1934) and his son, John Bamber Hickam, M.D. (1914-1970). The correspondence was created and received by Stephen J. Jay, M.D. (Professor Emeritus of Medicine and Public Health, Indiana University) during the course of his research for an essay ("Legacies of Hoosier Aviation and Medical Science Visionaries: Horace M. and John B. Hickam") that he delivered at a meeting of the Indianapolis Literary Club on February 16, 2016 and published in the journal Traces of Indiana and Midwestern History (Vol. 30, Issue 2) in Spring 2018. Correspondents include Walter J. Daly, M.D. (Dean Emeritus, Indiana University School of Medicine), Harvey Feigenbaum, M.D. (Distinguished Professor of Cardiology, Indiana University School of Medicine), Stuart Bondurant, M.D. (Dean Emeritus, University of North Carolina School of Medicine), and members of the Hickam family. Also included are photocopies of a 1967 letter and proposal from John B. Hickham to Sam Regenstrief regarding the creation of the Regenstrief Foundation for Health Care Research, and Stephen Jay's essay on the contributions of Horace M. and John B. Hickham to military aviation, medicine, and public health.
