Background
- Biographical / Historical:
Gilbert Laue was born in 1916 to Gilbert F. and Harriett Thompson Lane of Gary Indiana. He grew up in the Gary area and graduated from both Horace Mann High School and Handover College. His wife was the bread bringer of the household and worked as an attorney in Chicago. Because of this Mr. Laue stayed at home with their daughter and would work odd jobs that left him open for easier for childcare. Mr. Laue worked as a general handyman at a Girl Scout camp, as a health education consultant for the Chicago Health Department, and did writings for the Gary Community Chest and Council of Social Agencies. Mr. Laue worked further within his writing career when he started to write an article for a women's magazine about his experiences as a the primary care giver of his daughter. There was push back for Mr. Laue to expand his experiences into a full length book and he later wrote So Much to Learn in 1953. Mr. Laue finished out working as a staff writer for Adult Leadership. Mr. Laue passed in 1997.
