Background

Biographical / Historical:

The Viola d'amore Society of America, which was founded in 1977 by Myron Rosenblum and Daniel Thomason, as an answer to the growing interest in the viola d'amore, its music, history and its place in the contemporary music scene.

As interest in the viola d'amore grew internationally, it was decided to convert the Viola d'amore Society of America into an international organization. Thus, the International Viola d'amore Society e.V. was founded in October 2013 and the organization's base of operations was moved from the United States to Germany.

Today the International Viola d'amore Society e.V. continues to promote viola d'amore performance, scholarship, compositions, construction, and restoration. They also hold the International Viola d'amore Congress once every other year.
