Background

Scope and Content:

This collection contains the research used to prepare an article for Arts Indiana. It includes the article, research notes, interviews, and Marguerite Richey's diary.

Biographical / Historical:

In 1928 Oakley and Marguerite Richey visited New York City so Oakley, a graduate and instructor at the Herron School of Art, could attend lectures and paint. His wife, Marguerite, kept a diary chronicling their six-month experience in the city. Sara Sanderson, a free-lance writer, acquired the diary from a thrift store in the mid-1980s and used the diary to form the basis for an article published in Arts Indiana in 1988 (call number: NX1 .A11 I53).
