Background

Biographical / Historical:

Alan Rabinowitz (1927-2017) was an urban economist and professor of Urban Planning at the University of Washington. He was the author of seven books, including Social Change Philanthropy (1990). He served on the board of the National Network of Grantmakers.

Scope and Content:

The most important component of the collection is an annotated bibliography of progressive philanthropy addressed to Brenda Burk in 2008, which is listed as the first item in the collection. Other materials include a variety of publications relating to social justice issues and progressive philanthropic organizations that Rabinowitz collected during the course of his life. Newsletters, working papers, and reports form the bulk of the collection. Materials are organized in alphabetical order by title following the bibliography.
